Day 12 Part II, Finding Place, February 16, 2008

David noticed that the restaurant was on the same street as Andrea Zhi Bei’s “finding place.” The place where she had been “left” when she was 10 days old. We had talked to Lynn about visiting her finding place and that was on our agenda to do. Lynn had mentioned that it was close to our hotel. As it turned out the “Friendship Palace Hotel” was just a few blocks from the restaurant so we went ahead and stopped. The information we have indicated she was found at the rear gate of the Friendship Palace Hotel. The weather is much more reasonable during the time year she had been abandoned then it is now. She was abandoned on June 22, 2002. The Friendship Palace Hotel seems to be a reasonably nice hotel located along the Songhua River on Youyi Lu (Friendship Road). The rear gate of the hotel is on a service alley and adjacent to a park along the river. Because it is a service alley it is both busy and discrete and so probably is as good place as anywhere to leave something you want found.

We cannot help the feeling this is where our beautiful daughter’s journey to us began. It seems hallowed ground.
Our daughter does not know why we stopped here. We wonder what she will want to know 10 or 15 years from now about this place. We want to go inside and ask if anybody remembers that day 5 and 1/2 years ago. What they know. What she was found with. The information we have says no note, nothing. Is that possible? We know our adoption contacts here would not want us asking such questions and it would not be fair to our guide if we pursued it now. So we don't. But what will our daughter want to know? What do we owe this precious girl we have been entrusted with?
